Dustin Pedroia’s wife Kelli Pedroia is an institution in Boston, almost as much as her husband. The former Kelli Hatley is one of the more visible Red Sox wives. She battled melanoma when she was only 18. Kelli returned home from a week-long Spring Break trip with a melanoma diagnosis. During this trip, she had been in the sun almost non-stop. Though she had a killer tan, she also had a literally killer skin condition.
Kelli is now a spokeswoman for the Melanoma Foundation of New England. She uses her personal experience to educate people about the dangers of tanning beds as well as sun exposure. Kelli specifically works to warn teenage girls who may find themselves in similar situations to what she experienced growing up. She was constantly poolside in a bathing suit, soaking up the rays.
Dustin Pedroia’s wife Kelli had to deal with another medical condition as well, albeit far less serious in nature. In 2013, Kelli spent Mother’s Day in the hospital, where she had her appendix removed. I’m sure that wasn’t how she had planned to spend Mother’s Day! But, Dustin was there laying in the bed with her just the same.
Dustin and Kelli married in November 2006 after dating for many years. They both attended Arizona State University, where Dustin played his collegiate ball. The couple have three sons, born in August of 2009, September of 2012 and most recently in June of 2014.
Their first child prompted Pedroia to miss the 2009 All Star Game. Kelli was having complications with the pregnancy. Not to be outdone, their second son has his own story. Kelli went into labor mid-game, prompting a funny reaction from Pedroia. Dustin was told on the field about his wife’s pending labor and then proceeded to run to the dugout. Their third son, Brooks, was relatively drama free when compared to the other two children.
Dustin Pedroia’s wife Kelli is very involved with charity work. Her charitable endeavors include the Jimmy Fund and the Positive Spin for ALS bike ride. Kelli has also taken part in the annual Fenway Runway Fashion Show. Kelli also took part in the annual Room to Grow Mother’s Day breakfast.
