Mike Conley’s wife Mary Conley is his longtime squeeze since their days at Ohio State. They were married on the 4th of July in 2014. It’s funny how Mike chose to talk about his wedding: “Back in the States after a successful wedding and honeymoon!” What would be an unsuccessful wedding and honeymoon- someone runs away screaming? Someone stands up and yells, “don’t do it?” Their German Shepherd, Rio, predates their marriage. Mike describes the handsome dog thusly: “He swears he’s human. He refuses to sit anywhere else” (other than on plush leather seats). Hey, NBA dogs are like that.
Back before the start of the 2015-16 season, Mike Conley’s wife Mary accompanied him to China. It wasn’t exactly a vacation, per se. The NBA has a huge PR campaign that sends the players all over the world to participate in games and social/community events. In this case, Mike and Mary hung out with a bunch of Chinese wheelchair athletes in Shanghai. I watched a short slow-motion video of Mike trying to shoot a free throw in a wheelchair. It ain’t too easy! Anyway, Mary considers herself a professional fashion blogger. In my book, you have to post a hell of a lot of content to be a professional blogger. At least one substantial item per day will qualify you. Mary doesn’t meet that criteria, but she’s certainly into fashion and posting pictures of herself in different clothes. Her blog posts are mostly about the weather and/or what she’s wearing or some combination of those two things.
Not to be a total meanie, but the blog posts are not exactly what I’d call gripping. Mike Conley’s wife certainly strikes me as a sweet woman, but the most riveting content she provides revolves around stuff like walking around, noticing her surroundings, and considering color combinations for shirts and pants. Here’s a brief snippet:
“I decided to leave my shirt untucked when I wore this last night. I felt like being a bit more casual. I love this tee. You know when you find something you love and you want to get it in all the colors, and that is what I did :)”
So yeah– not exactly Jennifer Egan. It’s sort of funny because most of the comments on her posts simply read: “This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.” There must be some fierce debates raging about the tuck or no-tuck of those t-shirts! Is there something controversial about Mike Conley’s wife that I’m missing! I’ve come across a few of these fashion blogging player wives before. If you’re an avid reader of this site, you have too. They generally follow the same format. You have the player wife posing a good five to fifteen feet away from the camera. My biggest wonder with them rarely has anything to do with what they’re trying to show me. Rather, I’m always asking myself the question: who is taking the actual pictures? It’d be amazing if they have a personal assistant for such occasions.
