Mark Walter’s wife Kimbra Walter is the mother of their daughter. She is also a trustee of the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. In addition, she involves herself with community organizations like the Chicago Hope Academy and Urban Students Empowered. These groups help poor young and troubled kids. The couple also established a scholarship fund at Northwestern University. Kimbra earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern in 1985. They undoubtedly met in college and married soon after. According to the Northwestern website, they gave a gift of $40 million to the school in 2014 to fund a new sports complex. Apparently Mark gave his first gift of $100 in 1986 right after he graduated. I saw a rendering of the sports complex. It looks pretty darn spectacular and lies on the lake.
So what does Mark Walter’s wife do? She’s an attorney! These guys are pretty successful. It’s no secret that Mark’s company manages over 260 billion dollars in assets. I took a look at the couple’s main residence in Chicago. It’s 26,000 square feet of house! I should also mention the Walters bought a new place in Malibu in 2017. Before I tell you about that purchase, I will tell you the Walters bought a 7400 acre piece of conservation land in 2013. Rhinos live on that land! It’s in Florida, and it’s a place for endangered species. It’s pretty awesome. So about that Malibu house…
Apparently David Geffen bought the land in the 1970’s and 1990’s and then converted it all into one plot. Mark Walter’s wife will now be enjoying land that was originally five plots of land. They apparently paid $85 million. That makes it the biggest private home purchase in the history of Malibu. Originally, Geffen slapped a $100 million price tag on it in 2015. The Walters bought it under a secret LLC that was difficult to trace, but the secret is out now. But hey,… guess who else lives in Malibu? The former owner of the Dodgers, Jamie McCourt.
Thank you to Mark Walter & his family, & the @Dodgers ownership for treating @TommyLasorda as a “national treasure.” pic.twitter.com/ZXUVbN7Jz6
