06-09-2012: A bit more research is turning up clues that Kevin and Rena Millwood may have divorced in 2008. The most concrete piece of evidence that we can find is actually Kevin’s IMDB profile (he doesn’t appear to have any real acting credits, mostly appearances on baseball shows) which lists Kevin as divorced.
The starting pitcher in the Seattle Mariners group effort no-hitter last night, Kevin Millwood has actually pitched a solo no-hitter previously. Kevin Millwood’s wife Rena Stevens shared the spotlight with her husband for a few reasons. In 2003, Kevin Millwood pitched a no-hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies. During the game, Rena Stevens was aware that her husband had yet to give up a hit and found herself with a dilemma as a result. You see, she had to visit the restroom but was afraid that if she missed even one batter, she would jinx her husband. She managed to make the trip quickly between innings and Kevin went stayed hitless. After the game was completed, to represent each hitless inning, the Phillies actually gave Rena a gold necklace with nine zeroes, each made of diamonds.
Kevin Millwood has been married to Rena Stevens since 1999. They have two sons, Kevin Jr. (born in March of 2001) and James Conley (born in December of 2002), and live in Duluth, GA. Rena is a Volleyball Coach for the Lake View Academy middle school, where the boys attend school and where she also is active in the parent-teacher community. The couple is also very focused on their faith – they actually appear in the Athlete Testimonials section of SportsSpectrum.com, a website that focused on “where sports and faith connect”.
When Kevin was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, it represented somewhat of a culture shift for the family. Despite the major changes, Kevin was excited. Rena outted Kevin on the true reason for his excitement, saying:
The cheesesteaks. That’s all he’s been talking about.
