Kimbo Slice’s wife Antionette Ray mourns the passing of the mixed martial arts legend today. Slice was hospitalized early on the morning of June 6, and passed away later that evening. While the exact cause of death is not known at this time, there are reports that the fighter had an enlarged heart.
While any death is tragic, there’s an additional layer of sadness when considering that Kimbo Slice’s wife Antionette Ray is left to raise their six children, including one special needs child. All six children (three boys and three girls) have names that begin with K. Kimbo Slice, real name Kevin Ferguson, didn’t mind passing along the family name to his kids Kevin Jr., Kevin II, Kevlar, Kassandra, Kiara, and Kevina. Kevin Jr is an aspiring MMA fighter rocking the “Baby Slice,” nickname and won his debut fight last year.
As previously mentioned, Kimbo Slice’s wife Antionette Slice has an additonal layer of difficulty left to help raise their autistic son, Kevlar Slice. Kimbo and Kevlar had a very special relationship, where Kimbo took his son to train with him every day leading up to his fight with Ken Shamrock. The Bellator cameras followed Kimbo during his training with Kevlar
Slice managed to move out from the rough area of Miami he grew up in. Slice clearly loved all his children, and had goals for them to know a better life than he knew. Hopefully Kimbo Slice’s wife was left with enough of the family fortune to ensure the following quote from the fighter holds true.
When it comes down to your kids, you want to give them everything about you, and what you have … so they can be a little bit better, a little bit stronger, a little bit smarter, a little bit wiser. You just want your offspring to be a little bit better than you were, coming up in this life.
Kimbo Slice was 42 years old.
