Sean Marks’ wife Jennifer Marks gave him the go-ahead a few years ago to become the Assistant Coach and then Spurs’ Director of Basketball Operations. That was in 2013– the same year Sean lost his mother on Mother’s Day in 2013. She was actually an Olympic-quality swimmer back in the 60’s who qualified for the ’64 Tokyo Olympics but decided not to attend.
Sean left coaching in 2014 to join the Spurs management team. He is currently the assistant GM for the Spurs. Now it’s looking like Sean may become the new General Manager of the Brooklyn Nets. This is following an interview Marks had with a committee headed up by the Nets owner.
Sean and Jennifer were married in July of 2001. They currently have four sons of various ages. They’re college sweethearts who met when Sean was a junior at Berkeley. Often times the city you attend college at is the one you settle down at, and that was true for Sean and Jennifer for many years. They were living in California in the off-season in his playing days. That would likely all change if he decided to become GM. They would most definitely move to New York City.
Sean and Jennifer certainly left a good impression on the city of San Antonio. Sean Marks’ wife attended many events and galas while he rose through the ranks. Back in 2013, they attended an event called the “Tux ‘N Tennies Gala.” That’s an event the Spurs put together every year to raise money for the Spurs organization Silver and Black Give Back. Essentially it’s all just for helping out underprivileged youths and providing sports programs and stuff. It’s a good cause.
Even further back in 2007, Sean Marks’ wife attended the Steve Nash Celebrity Roast to raise some money for the Steve Nash Foundation. Sean and Steve had become friends during Sean’s stint at Phoenix. That was back in the days when the couple and their four sons were living in California. As you might imagine, becoming the General Manager of the Nets would radically reshape all their lives.
