Manny Ramirez’ wife Iris Ramirez spent a good deal of time this year creating a website which attempted to intermix the seemingly insoluble pair of Christianity and fitness. It’s called foundations619 and is indeed a strange website. All entries in the nutrition section stopped after June of 2014 (I imagine she just got tired of the whole thing), but when she was writing them she would include challenges to eat healthy meals from recipes she provided and then include things like: ‘As you continue with this challenge, remember to use Scripture as a source of empowerment! God says “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”‘ Wait so– not only do I have to follow your chicken tacos recipe, but I’ve got to convince myself that I’m following some sort of path to righteousness? Man, this site is asking a lot! Can’t you just make me the chicken tacos? I promise I’ll pretend to be a righteous dude if you do.
I suppose even though I’m perplexed and somewhat fascinated by Manny Ramirez’ wife Iris’s curious and sophistic website, she certainly has been a positive influence in his life. The big fella’ himself has explained how she has completely turned him into the person he is today. Well, I’m not surprised! If she can fashion some healthy shakes and chicken tacos into the very essence of piety, imagine what she can do with a 300 pound man! Any time you’ve got someone posting enthusiastic videos of the infamous Kirk Cameron talking about Santa Claus, you’re going to be on a journey (spiritual or otherwise). On her eighth wedding anniversary, Iris posted a charming photo of Ramirez and her together and said, “I thank God for you daily and pray we only grow more in Him and His love! Excited to see the plan He has in store for us as we live each moment to honor and glorify Him.” Chicken taco time!
