Caleb Sturgis’ wife Kimberly Sturgis married him on July 5 of 2014 in Florida. Kimberly’s now a fitness instructor, which makes sense because she was formerly a cheerleader at the University of Florida. The couple met in the middle of their sophomore year during a cheerleading event that was held at Kimberly’s house. She didn’t think much of him at first other than that he was easy to talk to and funny (by football and cheerleader standards, folks). She said: “I assumed he was just another football player and didn’t think too much of our meeting.” From Caleb’s perspective, he said he was blown away by her beauty and her personality and described it as “love at first sight” for him, also adding that he didn’t think she’d ever fall for him. He pursued her over the next two months and took her to Outback Steakhouse for their first date. He said they had to wait for over an hour to get seated. That’s life in Florida, people: the best restaurant you can find is Outback and you have to wait an hour just to get in.
Kimberly now describes Caleb as “so much fun to be around all the time.” Caleb Sturgis’ wife says that he “likes to explore things and create adventures out of every day life,” adding that she is “so in love with him and thankful for him.” We see very clearly how spending a lot of time with someone will change your first impression to “just another football player” to whatever it means now to someone that “likes to explore things and create adventures.” Does that mean he occasionally finds new rooms in their house and likes to explore them? Do they go on expeditions through the stadium he practices at and find new and interesting utility closets? He proposed to her in February of 2014, only five months before their wedding. He had managed to get her to this park where he pretended to want to pick an orange off of a tree. First, Kimberly didn’t want to go, and secondly, she kept insisting that he just go down the road to her father’s fruit stand since he sells oranges for a living…
When Caleb Sturgis’ wife got to the place where he’d planned to propose, she noticed a picnic that had been set up for them and figured it was for someone else. I’m not sure how she didn’t put two and two together at this point since the entire trip had been fishy from the start, but Caleb said they should go investigate the picnic area out of curiosity, which she was against because she didn’t want to be nosy. Based on her account, she only figured out that the picnic was for her when she saw a box of cupcakes that she likes, and when she turned around to ask if the picnic was for them, Caleb dropped the knee and asked her to marry her. She never even had a chance. He proposal-sniped her like a sitting duck. They spent a few more hours at the picnic and enjoying the day there. If she’d said no, I wonder if the cupcakes and picnic would have gone to waste. At least take a cupcake before you go!
