Ashley Wagner’s boyfriend Eddy Alvarez is unfortunately now Ashley Wagner’s ex-boyfriend. More on that in a minute. Eddy is an Olympic speed skater and a professional baseball player. He is in the Chicago White Sox organization and farm leagues. Eddy currently plays for the Queen City Knights. Both Eddy and Ashley won medals at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
So, what was that whole ex-boyfriend thing you buried?

In fact, they started to talk to each other more every day they were there. The article said their schedules make their abilities to see each other very challenging.
Here’s the rub. Geography made seeing each other a challenge. And, while he was still Ashley Wagner’s boyfriend, they tried to make it work, and saw each other plenty by video calls. But, it’s unsustainable. Ashley announced late last year that the pair split. They were together for three years before they broke up in March of 2017, right before the World Championships. During the 2014 Olympics, Eddy fell in four separate events. He still managed to earn a silver medal in the 5000 meter team relay, according to Wikipedia. He joked that he deserved a medal for his skill at hitting the protective padding on the edge of the ice. In an article by the Miami Herald, Eddy called the U.S. skating team a brotherhood. He said they didn’t perform up to their potential individually. Of course, a silver medal is nothing to sneeze at as a team. Ashley had rough stretch herself. In November 2017, she competed at Skate America in Lake Placid. However, she withdrew in the middle of the event. USA Today posted about the withdrawal. She suffered from an ankle infection. The pain was brutal. Ashley told a reporter she thought she could mentally will herself through the performance. However, the pain proved too great. She added that her focus is on the National Championships in January of 2018. Ashley also stressed she wants to make it on the Olympic team. People featured a video in December of 2017 with Ashley Wagner in it. They asked her what she thought of Tonya Harding. Ashley said Tonya was an example of someone who didn’t believe in herself. She called the scandal a “dark chapter” in figure skating history. Ashley herself said the upcoming movie about Harding brings attention to figure skating. She said that’s not a bad thing.
