Hope Solo has had a whirlwind 13 month stretch. Things began with Solo and her USA teammates finishing as a runner up in the 2011 Women’s World Cup, which elevated Solo to a position to make a successful Dancing With the Stars run. Things culminated with Solo minding net for Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics where she helped pull down her second gold medal.
Out of the spotlight, things have stayed just as interesting. We first learned about Hope Solo’s boyfriend Adrian Galaviz whom she’d been with for years. We heard on again-off again rumors about the couple, and of course there were rumors that Hope Solo was dating Maksim Chmerkovskiy who also happened to double as her dance partner during her DWTS run.
Now that Solo has yet again acheived new professional success following her second gold medal, rumors are again flying. Solo was seen, and photographed, partying in New York City with an apparent rapper Kwame Darko. Darko is a DC based rapper who is apparently in New York for a show this week, and is enjoying his time out in the city. In a tweet sent in the early morning hours of August 14, 2012, Darko said the following:
Me and my new boo Hope Solo w/ the gold medal round her neck #laaaterrr @ladyfutbolr #Congrats
Darko also provided a picture of him hugging Solo with his arms wrapped around her from behind. Now, back when I had any idea what words cool people used, I always thought ‘boo’ was a ridiculous term of endearment for a chick you were dating (I’m sorry, that’s just absurd. Do you remember that Usher song, You Will Always Be My Boo,… My boo,… my boo,… my booooooo. God. Awful. It’s shocking, upsetting and inexcusable that a song with that refrain repeated was somehow successful.) Anyways, I asked my wife who knows way more than me, and she informs me that boo does not necessarily equate to dating… it’s apparently just a context free word used for scenarios just like last night.
Anyways, we have no confirmation of what exactly this picture was. Is Hope Solo dating Kwame Darko? Was it a random encounter? Are they actually friends? Or is it something more. We will keep an eye out on this one, but until we learn more, let’s consider this a rumor,… just that and nothing more. In fact our best estimations seem to indicate that she is still with Galaviz, but we’re still working on officially confirming that.
And seriously, that song is terrible.
